Gas Safe Register
Gas Safe is the only gas-registration body in the UK and regulates gas businesses and engineers throughout the UK, Isle of Man and Guernsey. It’s the law that if a business works with gas, it must be on the register. Most people are still familiar with the old-registration body CORGI which was replaced in 2009 with the Gas Safe Register – the yellow triangle since 2009 is the trusted mark of the Gas Safe trade.
Gas Safe has grown, increasing its membership by more than 50% since 2009. With more than 140,000 registered engineers and more than 76,000 businesses, customers are provided with more qualified and competent persons than ever before.
Gas Safe works hard to protect the public from illegal gas workers, investigates unsafe gas works and investigates reports from unscrupulous gas workers. Additionally, Gas Safe aims to educate the public on the importance of gas safety and regulates its members with inspections and checks to ensure their work is to the regulation standard.
Having a Gas Safe-registered business install a heat-producing appliance in your home, e.g. a boiler or fire, require it to comply with the regulations, these state that the ‘appliance will need to be notified to the local authority within 30 days of the installation’. As your Gas Safe tradesperson is licensed, holds valid and current qualifications that are industry-specific and must demonstrate their competency to Gas Safe, they will be able to make this notification for you.
When checking your engineer’s status by visiting the Gas Register, consumers will get the option to either search by location, business or by the engineer’s licence number. The following link will take you to the Gas-Safe Register:
